AUDIO: The Phenomenon of Apocalypse
Below is the audio from Andrew’s recent Guru & Pandit dialogue with Ken Wilber on the phenomenon of apocalypse. Drawing on the recent media and online buzz about the coming “end times” on December 21st, 2012, Cohen and Wilber explore everything from the Mayan prophecies about 2012 to the progress-oriented thinking of Stephen Pinker to Albert North Whitehead’s notion of “occasions” and how it relates to the highly anticipated apocalyptic events like 12/21/12. Bringing their usual penchant for penetrating inside and mind-expanding perspective, these two definitely break new ground in our understanding of why humans seem to be so obsessed with apocalypse and what it means about where we’re all headed:

I’m glad the world didn’t really end two days ago so we can continue listening to this
Thanks for a wonderful solstice talk. There were many nuggets of wisdom that sparked a new insight or expanded an existing thought. Much appreciated.
Am I missing something, but isn’t the great enlightenment that is going to ‘come down’ and ‘save us all’ , ‘merely’ the move to second tier for more of us and it ‘comes down’ just the same way that red, amber, orange etc ‘came down’?
Good Lord, what a weak broadcast this was. I’ve heard better ones in this series.
I was flabbergasted and totally upset about certain parts, viz. about the mighty (…) nation of the USA, being attacked by terrorists using nuclear weapons… by those evil (arab terrorists of course…?
and the whole world economy going down the drain if the USA’s economy is destroyed. Are you aware that the USA economy is a total mess and has been for decades, and depends on the rest of the world to sustain the weak dollar. I think the rest of the world can do without the “mighty” USA. The USA that has been terrorizing and destructing the rest of the world for decades for their own profit and keeping the war machine going (that’s blood economics). But hohoho the Mayans were a horrible culture, they beheaded people and played soccer with the heads. I got really upset as you can imagine. No word about the Roman era and Christians being thrown into the arena to be ripped to pieces by lions. Now, THAT was civilized.
Let’s talk about Guantanomo Bay where people are being TORTURED by medical doctors with the permission of the US Government. Sheer fascism. Are you deaf and blind or just bad informed? FREE us from US barbarism.
And gosh the two of you laughed your head off talking about barbarism in the 19th century. Top notch spiritualism.
what an Appalling shocking broadcast.
This was truly an apocalyptic event. Congratulations. I just quit half way of the broadcast, I was sooooo disappointed.
Thanks for saying this -I agree that a Guru and Pandit are expected to be e bit more aware? where is the understanding and compassion? Humour is great but not when its misplaced…
I wonder…
On this site I note a reference to
Albert North Whitehead.
Is this meant to be
Alfred North Whitehead, the great 20th C philosopher (maybe the greatest since Plato?) ?
