Andrew Cohen is a spiritual teacher, cultural visionary, founder of EnlightenNext, and the author of

A secret soul behind supporting all
Is master and witness of our ignorant life,
Admits the Person’s look and Nature’s role.
But once the hidden doors are flung apart
Then the veiled king steps out in Nature’s front;
A Light comes down into the Ignorance,
Its heavy painful knot loosens its grasp:
The mind becomes a mastered instrument
And life a hue and figure of the soul.
All happily grows towards knowledge and towards bliss.
A divine Puissance then takes Nature’s place
And pushes the movements of our body and mind;
Possessor of our passionate hopes and dreams,
The beloved despot of our thoughts and acts,
She streams into us with her unbound force,
Into mortal limbs the Immortal’s rapture and power.
An inner law of beauty shapes our lives;
Our words become the natural speech of Truth,
Each thought is a ripple on a sea of Light.
Then sin and virtue leave the cosmic lists;
They struggle no more in our delivered hearts:
Our acts chime with God’s simple natural good
Or serve the rule of a supernal Right.
Savitri Book VII Canto V
If you really want to understand this subject, it needs a deeper, an actual self-experience than the intellectual consideration being undertaken here. Read Sri Aurobindo’s ‘Synthesis of Yoga’ or his ‘Letters on Yoga’ to more fully understand in your mind the geography of the soul and psychic being and its relation to the Central Being and the higher levels of consciousness above the mind and ego.
What is the soul ? French word gives an insight :
Soul is ‘AME’.
OUR SOUL is then ‘AM-OUR’ or Love
So, meeting souls would create intersubjective field (or WE-relationship as ”the WE- we are in” says Ken in this call) and, in it, virtue as care, loving, compassion.
Love would be the deeper layer of the Self.
WE-relationship can be heard as OUI-relationship or YES-relationship or Love.
Remembrance of perfect union of two souls in One , would be LOVE.
soul development: yes, you can make it a big issue, if you WANT. But awareness needs no soul, and no additional big issues. our separation is created, and we search for a high unity. Both is here and now: feelable and understandable. the separation is an illusion. Such is the soul. To make a detour to the soul and all these seemingly past and possibly future lives is not neccessary to be aware now. No, it keeps us away.
I recommend – with respect – that you stop teaching this.
Whaoooo JB, do I read you well? So you know what the soul is, you know what awareness is, do I read that you( may-be?) can be aware now?
I recommend that you PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZEEEEEEEEEEE stop using the words “illusion” “separation” “here” “now” “our” “created”…….well…..actually no, I’m not joking…..
As I see it, – I do mean: just as I see it – this non-duality interpretation is a real problem; it separates me from many of my friends. Well, I just disagree completely with interpreting everything on the base of our FALSE interpretations of the ancient non-duality teachings.
When I listen to Ken Wilber I hear silence, I hear wholeness, I hear absolutely NO-boundaries. I like to share this, with whomever likes it too. Thank you.
Hi HB
You are right, words like illusion, separation, or the non-duality interpretation are a problem – not for a mind in silence, but for most minds which are in uninterrupted thoughts. That’s probably the reason why you are HB in this blog, and I am JB: in order not to be seperated from our friends, relatives, and networks.
I can try not to use these words, even in this blog – it’s a good challenge.
The soul issue though includes words like “being reborn”, “karma”, “spirituality” etc, which in certain circles will also separate you from friends. Therefore the target-aimed question is: is it needed to talk about the sole issue in order to become aware, happy, understanding? My truth is: Wonderfully it is not neccessary for the people who have no attention on it. Sitll it seems helpful to explain its substance to the people who are caught in it -as I worte, they are not wrong, they are on an almost infinite detour.
Sorry, i was uncareful: H.J. (and not ‘HB’).
And thank you for your contribution!
If I got it wright, all this about the soul, will cause to oneness of the individual.
What is Soul? That which is soulful, especially as this ineffable, loveable, trickster and wise soulfulness appears in poetry, great literature, music, dance and skillfulness in all endeavors. To me, the most wonderful (combined) human being of our time would be a mad mixture of Andrew Cohen and Leonard Cohen (poet and songwriter/singer). Of course not in actuality, but in soulful substance! A combination of extreme depth of understanding of great, gorgeous things of the heart and soul within a rational/prose method of explanation, plus the fringe and non-rational poetic or musical assault method which bypasses the thinking mind. And wit and humor.
Several decades ago, in my own poetic period, I tried to describe Soul this way:
SACRED NAMING
Where the eagle flies
I do not know nor do I go;
I know an eagle man
who does.
His name is Eagle Who Flies With Mercury;
he heals the dead
in spirit.
Where the lioness waits, all potential
in her energy,
there am I.
My name is Lion Who Walks With Orion;
I leap to chase
warm-blooded love.
A man’s earthly life is named
by an animal,
his soul by a star.
On a pendulum between the two,
like Tarzan,
he is getting good
at playing the hero.
Now try to understand that! I do and I don’t. There, in mind-mashing mystery, is the sensual, the artsy and Soul-full Divine Feminine. I guess I appreciate both the Andrew Cohen and the Leonard Cohen approaches to the attempt to know ourselves.
