An Inner Contract
Something profound happens at a soul level when someone makes a commitment to their own spiritual development. No one forces you to do it. It’s freely chosen. And, of course, when you make that commitment, you don’t really know what you are committing to. But what you do know is that it’s a commitment to that which is absolute, to that which is nonrelative, to that which is inconceivable, to that which means everything, forever. That much you do know. And I’ve always felt that once someone freely chooses to make that commitment, once you say yes to the Absolute, to God, there is no going back, even if you want to reconsider later down the line. In other words, once that free choice is made from the depths of your own soul, something happens at a karmic level that is eternal—an inner contract is signed.

Yes, saying yes does seem to have a momentum of its own. What started as a passion that I slipped in between everything else in my life gradually revealed itself as the most important part of my life, guiding, pushing and pulling in ways that I could never have imagined and couldn’t stop if I tried. It’s not easy, not always comfortable, but absolutely compelling.
” But Savitri answered from her violent heart,-
Her voice was calm, her face was fixed like steel:
“Once my heart chose and chooses not again.
The word I have spoken can never be erased,
It is written in the record book of God.
The truth once uttered, from the earth’s air effaced,
By mind forgotten, sounds immortally
For ever in the memory of Time. “

Thank you, I have never had the pleasure of a conversation with anyone, either in writing or verbally, who has read Savitri, much less loved it enough to quote from it. I don’t know if you knew of my deep relationship to this poem or just intuited it. In either case, your comment settled like a warm benediction on my being.
I have been on a soul journey since 2006,when my 18 year old son Stephen made his transition to the spiritual realm. My life has not been the same. I have been told I experienced a spontaneous Kundalini awakening from the trauma of grief. I healed, because I accepted and embraced all the love and light that is available to us. This was a soul contract, not only with myself, but also my son. He crossed over first to open me up to this healing force, that is available to us all. This is the God within. At the present time, I am working towards my certification in energy healing. I am able to see and feel subtle energy. This is my soul purpose, and also my sons legacy. Life is a mystery, but if we truly trust and have faith, miracles do happen. I continue to experience these miracles and unconditional love….
Blessings,
Renee
In the Bible it says: “Many are called, few are chosen”. Having had the profound experience of connecting with my higher self, I have reflected on the meaning of this statement.
First was the thought: “Was I chosen”. If I was chosen, why was I chosen “.
Was there something, that made me something that put me among the few ??
I didn’t think I was special or possessed something that others didn’t have. So what made the difference?
I finally came to the answer, that what made the difference was that I “had” Chosen.
We are all called and only few make the choice.
And indeed when the choice is made, there is no going back to the ignorance of who we truly are.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Thank you so much for this quote, Andrew, you clearly bring to the point what moves inside of me since weeks. I did a lot of psychological work since I was 18. Very helpful, lots of amazing experiences. There always was an underlying spiritual force that drew me to amazing places, too. Let’s say I made experiences and the sum of that I call dynamic spirituality. Anyway, during the last month I found myself stuck in a place between heaven and earth and somehow didn’t know exactly why and how to get out. Just some weeks ago I discovered that I started to mix those two worlds hopelessly. And that I always kind of secretly cultivated the idea: I can’t be so sharply and unconditionally call the spiritual force THE force. Oh yes, I can! The only place, even though space and time are irrelevant there, where all my strength, love, power and insight come from clearly is the spiritual one. The rest is shape that manifests and fades away and manifests and fades away… Deep joy, by the way, is something I only experience while I am spiritually connected. So, let’s go for joyful manifestations in our beautiful world, there is a lot of potential
. Send you love!
Amen! The ‘something’ that happens on the soul level can be an ecstatic sense of intimacy in the ‘intercourse’ (communication) between the sexes. Jeff and Patricia A, as well as Barbara Marx Hubbard, refer to this as “supra-sex.” What appears as the biological imperative to procreate can be tamed through ones soul strength and integrity so that it can emerge as creativity, and of lightness of being, total bliss, between the partners. Freedom. Thus the commitment to one’s spiritual development is given further inspiration. After experiencing heaven on the yonder shore, I will never go back. The ‘inner contract’ is signed, sealed and delivered.
Thank you, Andrew!
Eloquently captured Andrew. I agree, it seems that when you make an inner spiritual contract, it may seem you make it with yourself but essentially it is for God and the universe then seems to hold you accountable, in that you start from the point of contract to see through a new lens. Which doesn’t necessarily bring change/success/absence of pain or intimate highs for the journey is still to be made but you can no longer look with the old glasses on. In my language, that would be when the Holy Spirit kicks in and you can see (even if you don’t like what it is you’re seeing) what is real as you never saw it before and it really shatters all previous perceptions. It is powerful.
Yes! I find this post the clearest description of my own experience that began for me decades ago.
At that time something almost indescribably deep within me choicelessly gave full affirmation, when utterly overwhelmed by the fact of the Absolute.
Since then the process has been to come to terms with what has already happened.
Ain’t so easy.
Ain’t no way back.
It is imperative that we do not consider ourselves very clever as this can allow Maya to slap us.Also it’s vitally important that we are not those that have blind faith. The donation of our every bone in the most auspicious task of God is the most charitable act a human being can perform. Such souls are the ones that give a proof of their love for God and his task by writing of their faith in God using the ink of their blood.
You should know what you are committing to if you are mentally capable of making a decision. If one choses freely, how can you not know what you are committing to unless you do it unconsciously, in which case you are not doing it freely. If it is indeed inconceivable, then you are not committing to a god that you cannot conceive, unless it is an inconceivable god. Once again, you are talking utter nonsense. How can you continue this verbally inconceivable diatribe, unless you are not doing it freely. What I have said makes as much sense as what you have said and I say that freely and that is a re-considerable decision and a freely reconsidered one at that. I welcome your response, freely of course, and one that is re-considerable and a contract that is revocable. I think you are writing what you write to con readers in some sort of cosmic joke.
Gerald
Thank you for your honest appraisal of what “The Commitment” reflects to you.
The only response I can give is that it IS an experience that is the unexplainable.
The longing for GOD presence isn’t something that I pursued in the depth of my normal everyday life.
Its like a seed that was planted before creation.
Nothing in my life nor this world has nor could satisfy this longing and searching that I have had though the core of my being.
Are we all planted with this seed? I would like to think that we are.
Does is have anything to do with past life choices? Maybe yes.
But do we really know? And the bigger question is, “Does is really matter”?
I have been snared in a desire to walk with GOD, hand in hand thru this life, for WHATEVER the reasons. And unless something in your being has nurtured to some extent that seed, there will be no understanding nor empathy. You see this isn’t an easy path nor a cosmic joke. To throw up our hands in utter surrender for seeking something you can’t see, touch, smell or taste isn’t logical.
But here is the irony Gerald, after a time…all the seeker does is see, touch, smell and taste the essence of the beloved.
Did I choose it or did it choose me is an irrelevant question.
When asked by my being, in my being if I wish to pursue a relationship with the all and the nothing…I HAD TO SAY YES, or die
May you find that still quiet voice that whispers to you in the night and it is my hope that you too…say yes
Much love
= YES ‘ no matter what’
This is absolutely true! The way to fulfil this comittment may change , the path may differ, the comittment stays engraved in our soul’s DNA.
I agree with Andrew. Spirituality follows Newton’s first law of motion i.e. if an object is put into motion it continues to be in motion unless prevented by outside force. A child has innocence and a spirit of inquiry, he sees things as they are, hears what is spoken and repeats what he sees or hears. As the child grows, social norms and preachings make him simulate / dissimulate and natural spiritual growth is thwarted. God gives us chance of redemption . What we need is a sincere desire to embark on the path of spirituality. God provides the avenue- choice is ours.
Yes,the inner contract is made. You said something which allseekers are aware but made confirmed by you. Thanks a lot.
Even if you reconsider to go back not only you can’t, you always go forward.
Yes mahavir now is that most auspicious time when the highway to our original home is opened by God the supreme spiritual father of us all children.
Mahavir how fast ar you travelling on this highway?
Regards
Harish
Thank you all who answered Andrew’s comment about “soul contract” – so
descriptive of the hunger we all feel, even in our physical form, to “know” that part in us that IS extension of Source.
My belief is that we all made that contract – it is in fact a “done deal” – time and space, the senses we operate with here have very little to do with it. But
we want to be happy and feel fulfilled – it is a preferred state of mind by far – so we seek, pray, communicate on all levels, try reason and alternate states
by whatever means … and on and on it goes
The glimpses of holiness-wholeness keeps us going!
Bless us all
I thank you all for sharing your experiences re commitment to Life, for we are each an aspect of some incredible conscious awareness that seems to require unconditional commitment from us.
It isn’t easy. Actually, for people such as myself it is extremely difficult to let my life be directed. Perhaps it isn’t so much of a choice to commit as an acceptance that there is no acceptable alternative but to let God, the Universe, Spirit, Whatever have the final word. I struggle something fierce but I know that it’s a battle I could never win and some higher awareness in me would never want what is less to have the last word over what is not only more but all-inclusive. It is a journey of a lifetime, at least. Thatnk you. I’m not usually given to publicly confessing spirituality.
